The Width Of Love Is Not A Diagram

Point: Paul does not pray that the Church will map Christ's love like a doctrine possessed, but that it will be strengthened to live from a love too wide to master.

That seems too tidy. Paul is praying for people to be rooted and grounded in love, not for clever observers to stand over love with instruments.

The opposite thin reading would make "surpassing knowledge" permission for vagueness. If Christ's love cannot be mastered, perhaps it need not be taught, named, or tested in ordinary obedience. But John 15 joins abiding in Christ's love to his command and self-giving friendship, and Romans 8 names heights, depths, powers, death, life, and every created thing only to say they cannot separate God's people from that love in Christ.
