Beginning With Christ

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us. (John 1:14)

I am tempted to begin the journey with a chart: Rome, Constantinople, Canterbury, Geneva, Wittenberg, Azusa Street. Charts are useful, but they are not the foundation.

Christianity begins with Christ. Before I ask which church is the truest home, I need to ask who Jesus is, what he says, what he does, and why the first witnesses called him Lord.

Today's small resolution: read the Gospels slower than I read arguments about the Gospels.
